RL251 - Popped Out

This week, Merlin and John talk about

  • The confusing times of 1980:s music (Music)
  • Starting to like Tears for Fears (Music)
  • How SoundScan influenced music history (Music)
  • Meeting a former Hair Metal woman (Music)

The problem: "He made his bones to Jefferson Airplane", referring to their banter about 1980:s music, amongst others Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship.

The show title refers to a time when John "popped out of 80:s pop" because the music became too high energy for him.

They open the program singing with each other and continue to banter about music and different bands during the whole show.

There is a new Spider-Man movie with a nice scene playing the song Save it for later by The English Beat which is the exact same song as Harvey Danger's Flagpole Sitta. It has the same key and the same chords. They guys of The English Beat were big Harvey Danger fans and they would call Sean Nelson to sing Save it for Later and then Harvey Danger would do a medley of the two songs. This ended when Sean thought they were calling him too much.
